What is Identity Theft?
Identity Theft occurs when someone uses your personal information without your knowledge to commit fraud. I.D.TheftWise wants to fight back, helping you protect your identity. According to the Privacy Rights Clearing House, “Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in America today. It is the only crime where the suspect is presumed innocent before proven guilty, and the victim is presumed guilty until proven innocent.”

Identity theft takes may forms and the thieves still have many more reasons. Suffice it to say that if you shop online, receive pre-approved credit card offers in the mail, eat out at full-service restaurants using a credit or debit card, or provide your Social Security Number to anyone – you are at risk of becoming a victim of identity theft.

What are the various types of Identity Theft?
There are five major types of Identity Theft:

1. DRIVER’S LICENSE: Thieves use your information to buy vehicles or acquire a driver’s license in your name.
2. SOCIAL SECURITY: Thieves use your Social Security Number to gain employment or to report income under your name.
3. MEDICAL RECORDS: Thieves use your information for insurance benefits, prescription drugs or Medicare.
4. CRIMINAL: Thieves mask their criminal activity behind your identity. If someone commits a felony in your name, YOU will be served with the warrant.
5. FINANCIAL: Only 28% of identity theft is financial. Thieves use your information to open new accounts or to gain access to existing accounts.

How can Identity Theft affect me? What are my risks of becoming a victim?
The risks are great – in terms of lost wages, personal time lost, out-of-pocket expenses and piece of mind.

Identity Theft is so common that 1 in 25 people worldwide become a new victim every four seconds.

Identity thieves may open a new credit card account in your name by simply using your social security number and birth-date. When they use the card and don’t pay the bill – the delinquent account shows up on your credit report – impacting your ability to obtain credit for up to ten years.

Some thieves establish cell phone service in your name. Others open a bank account in your name and write bad checks on that account. Still others may use your social security number and ID to gain employment; or worse, use your identity when committing a serious crime.

What are some current statistics regarding Identity Theft?

What is the length (or term) of the membership?
The complimentary Bronze Membership is for a period of 12 months. Likewise, an upgrade to the comprehensive Platinum membership provides two options: 1) the standard of a 12 month membership or 2) a 36 month membership at a substantial savings – the cost of which only slightly exceeds twice the 12 month membership cost.

Is the Platinum Protection cost effective?
You protect your house, your car, and your health. Would you pay the same amount to protect your identity? For a lot less than any of those costs – you can protect your most valuable asset – your identity. As an example, at a cost equivalent to just slightly above ten dollars a month, our 36 month Platinum Membership is not only affordable, but provides the assurance that you are protected from the fasted growing crime in America today.

My credit card company or bank also offers ID theft protection. Why do I need IDTheftWise?
Did you read the terms of your protection offered by the other institutions? Chances are they offer terms and benefits similar to our Bronze Membership – at a cost to you. This is completely unlike our complimentary offer. They may include credit monitoring as a costly add-on. They probably don’t come close on the Restoration Services and Expense Re-imbursement Coverage provided with our Platinum Membership. What we have found is that these other plans offer pieces of our protection but typically don’t come close to providing the complete suite of services that our Platinum Membership provides. The decision is yours – we hope for the best but encourage you to plan for the worst.
